The Descent is a relentless and claustrophobic horror-thriller. The film immediately establishes a tone of **Sadness** and **Empathy** due to the protagonist's tragic loss. Once the group becomes trapped in the uncharted cave system, **Anxiety** and **Fear** dominate, intensified by the tight spaces, the unknown, and the growing sense of helplessness. The introduction of the 'crawlers' unleashes intense **Fear**, **Disturbing** imagery (gore, creature design), and frequent **Surprise** from jump scares and sudden attacks. **Anticipation** builds as the characters struggle for survival against both the creatures and their own escalating internal conflicts, leading to moments of **Anger** and **Disgust** due to betrayal and gruesome encounters. The movie offers very little relief or positive emotion, focusing instead on a harrowing and terrifying experience.
